Natural Balance knows that having the right team is the key to the success of any project. Our team of trades people, management, and industry professionals is dedicated to bringing our clients the highest quality of construction available.
Each member of our team has been handpicked by Nick for outstanding craftsmanship, work ethic, shared values and exceptional client focus. Through ongoing training, team members continuously upgrade their skills and expertise to remain at the leading edge of the construction industry.
Craig Smith brings over 25 years of project management experience in construction and real estate to the Natural Balance team and is deeply respected within the industry, making him an incredible asset and resource for the company…and our clients. Craig has been the senior construction manager on some of Vancouver’s most complex and challenging construction projects. Craig holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Urban Land Economics from UBC, and a Certificate in BC Canada Building Contruction Technology from BCIT.
A class act by any measure, Craig is known as a highly knowledgeable professional and a great communicator, but most important to us, he’s personable - our clients love him, and know he’ll go above and beyond the call of duty for them. We couldn’t ask for anything more!
Ryan Malone is Natural Balance’s in-house sustainability guru, with over eight years of experience in the construction industry. He holds a LEED AP BD + C certification and earned an Award of Achievement in Sustainability Management from UBC in 2011. Ryan holds a Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Victoria and a Bachelor of Commerce from Royal Roads University.
While he’s known for his sustainability expertise, Ryan’s also taken on the unpaid role of “tech support” at the office, thanks to his expertise in fixing and optimizing our computers. Ryan is also a backcountry enthusiast and recently became a father for the first time.
Alexis Vagelatos is a Red Seal-certified journeyman carpenter with over 15 years of experience in the Vancouver homebuilding industry. He’s a creative problem-solver who has worked extensively on new home construction, heritage restoration and renovation projects. Born and raised in Vancouver, Alexis has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography from UBC and holds a diploma in Concrete Estimating with the Trade Certification Program at BCIT.
Alexis is a kind-hearted soul, known for his compassionate, thoughtful and caring approach to his work, and his relationships with his co-workers. He recently became a father for the first time as well.
Todd has worked in the home building and construction industry for over 20 years. A true leader on the Natural Balance team, Todd is a Red Seal carpenter, a CGC-accredited geothermal designer installer, and is the former owner of Suddwick Homes, a high-end BC home building company. Todd studied Physics at SFU and holds a Business Management and Quality Assurance Management diploma from BCIT. A master builder, Todd spent several years working in Korea and Japan.
Todd recently moved to the city from Vancouver Island to support his son Nate’s education. He has purchased both a Mini Cooper and a top hat to assist in his transition to an urban lifestyle. When he’s not managing building projects, you can find Todd running, fishing, camping, or heading down a ski hill. He can also have a conversation with you in both French and Japanese.
Mike Dykstra is in his element when he’s framing – something he’s been doing on a broad range of home building projects since 1985. Mike has long been considered one of Vancouver’s top framers, with a reputation in the industry that’s second to none. Mike has formed and framed hundreds of homes throughout the Lower Mainland and Gulf Islands, and his resume includes some of the most complex and technically challenging architectural projects ever built in BC.
Mike coined the term “framing meditation” and unsurprisingly, has a relaxed and calm disposition that occasionally rubs off on the rest of us. The father of six beautiful children, Mike donates a week of his time each year to fly to Mexico to build homes for the disadvantaged.
Lorna Tam joined the management team at Natural Balance in 2010, and had set the pace for the entire team ever since. Lorna holds a Bachelor’s of Business Administration from SFU, and went on to complete the Certified General Accountant (CGA) program. She loves being challenged, and figuring out how to solve problems and make the business work more efficiently - qualities that come in handy when working in the company of (mostly) men at a busy home building company. Before she joined Natural Balance, Lorna was a senior accountant at an accounting firm, and an account manager at RBC.
Lorna loves travel and cooking (…and eating…and blogging about food), and is also a passionate amateur photographer. She keeps active with Bikram yoga, cycling, and rollerblading. Proving that she’s easily the smartest person working at Natural Balance, Lorna is fluent in both Mandarin and Cantonese, and teaches part time at Capilano University on accounting software and systems.
